Erik Petersen

Erik Petersen’s journey into the world of art is a testament to the power of hands-on experience and a deep connection to the natural world. Born in Lompoc, California, in 1976, Erik’s artistic inclinations surfaced early, as he spent his childhood drawing and painting.

In 1996, a pivotal move to Prescott, Arizona, set the stage for his professional development. He began working at a local bronze sculpture foundry, immersing himself in the intricate processes of bronze casting and the vibrant community of artists. For nine years, the foundry served as his artistic training ground, with seven of those years dedicated to mastering the art of patina application. This specialization provided him with invaluable expertise in the finishing touches that bring bronze sculptures to life.

By 2005, Erik’s expertise was in high demand, leading him to establish his own business, where he provided finishing and patina services to a wide array of renowned Western artists. This period allowed him to refine his skills and deepen his understanding of the artistic process.

Eventually, Erik’s creative drive led him to explore his own sculptural vision. Drawing inspiration from the wildlife that surrounds him, he began creating his own bronze sculptures. His works capture the essence of his subjects, reflecting his deep respect for the natural world.

Erik’s talent has garnered recognition in prominent publications, including Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Cowboys and Indians, Sedona Monthly, and The Arizona Republic. In 2014, in collaboration with his cousin, Willie Petersen, Erik organized the art exhibition “Inspiration to Creation: The Hidden Life Behind Bronze.” This innovative show, which combined photography, sculpture, and film, premiered at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona, and later travelled to the Phippen museum in Prescott Arizona.

Today, Erik Petersen continues to reside in Prescott, Arizona, where he creates his captivating wildlife sculptures, enriching the Western art landscape with his unique perspective and skilled craftsmanship.
